About Me
My ceramics seem to emerge from a series of obsessions – either with a certain type of form, a certain type of glaze, or a certain theme that carries me along – but no matter how far I wonder, or deviate, I always return to my first obsession – the bowl.
The bowl (for me) is powerfully symbolic. It is an archetypical vessel, first intended to hold food, or water, and it is connected with the human activities of eating and drinking, of giving and receiving. The bowl simultaneously offers and withholds. It can be mundane, or sacred.
Handmade ceramics make beautiful gifts. They become treasured artefacts and no two can be exactly the same. The purchase of a handmade piece of pottery is an entirely unique purchase. There can be no exact replica, or replacement.
